Giant Problems in NYC

Seahawks Record 11 Sacks, Force 3 Turnovers & Rout Giants (24-3) on Monday Night Football

It’s getting ugly in New York. On back-to-back nights, back-to-back primetime games at MetLife Stadium saw the home team lose (at least the Jets competed). Both the Giants and Jets are now 1-3, but the Jets have their own saga at quarterback. The G-Men? They don’t have the Aaron Rodgers excuse. The Seahawks mopped the Giants on Monday Night Football (24-3) and sacked QB Daniel Jones 11 times last night. Seattle picked off Jones twice and forced two fumbles. Rookie CB Devon Witherspoon took one INT 97 yards to the house and tallied two sacks. In the end, the Seahawks defense scored more points than the Giants offense. A defensive clinic by Seattle’s defense? Or another display of ineptitude for New York? Seattle improved to 3-1, while New York tumbled to 1-3 and alone at the bottom of the NFC East. Let’s go deeper.

11 Seattle Sacks: Seattle’s pass rush looked like juggernauts on Monday Night Football. Whether or not they are, or the Giants O-line is horrendous, was hard to tell. Their 11 sacks nearly rewrote the record books. Only eight teams in NFL history have had more sacks in a game. The all-time record belongs to the Eagles (14, 1952).

Daniel Jones Through 4 Games (1-3)

The Giants’ only win of the season was a second-half comeback against the Cardinals in Week 2. In that half, Daniel Jones threw for 2 TDs and 0 INTs. In his other seven halves of football (14 quarters), Jones has 0 TDs, 8 turnovers, and he’s been sacked 21 times.

Giant Problems: After giving Jones a $160 million contract that made him a top-10 paid quarterback, New York has little time to turn things around in a loaded NFC East. Their next two opponents are the Dolphins and Bills before another date with the Cowboys (in Dallas) and two meetings with the Eagles. The G-Men might be cooked at 1-5 before mid-October.

Fun Fact: The Giants are 0-2 at home this season with a total of 3 points — the fewest combined total through two home games in NFL history.
